While some students think that school lunches are disgusting, there are kids who depend on the one to two meals the school provides each day.

“School lunches are disgusting and don’t help any kids get nutrition,” said freshman Serra Kimsey.

But while you might think the food is bad and not worth eating, others would love to have it, because they don’t or can’t eat at home because they can’t afford it.

When families don’t have money in their account it’s hard to get food. Some kids don’t understand the concept of money, and they don’t have a bank account. So when the lunch ladies deny them and don’t let them eat because they have no money, this is just wrong.

New Mexico was the first state to make kids work for food when they don’t have money to pay for their lunches.  While this practice hasn’t happened at Farmington High, it has happened at other schools in the state.

This so-called “lunch shaming” has drawn national attention and lawmakers are now working to fix the problem.

I don’t think its right that kids should have to work if they can’t pay for lunches. The school shouldn’t be shaming the kids for not having the money for lunches. They should be doing it to their parents.

Most kids are embarrassed because they got denied and have to clean tables, serve food, or sweep and mop just to have a little meal. They shouldn’t be doing this! Its not fair, right or cool.
